State of Florida

Department of Environmental Protection

Our Organization and Mission:

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is the state's lead agency for environmental management and stewardship - protecting our air, water and land. The vision of DEP is to create strong community partnerships, safeguard Florida's natural resources and enhance its ecosystem.

The Work You Will Do:

The OPS Computer Operator's work will focus primarily on processing the 8700-12FL Florida Notification of Regulated Waste Activity Forms submitted by currently registered Hazardous Waste and Solid Waste facilities and new submissions from facilities that wish to operate within Florida. Your assistance will be vital in verifying and organizing data entered into DEP systems; information used by various programs within the Division of Waste Management. This will include entering new and revised information accurately in a timely manner, verifying data input, and organizing provided documents for scanning into Oculus. Oculus, a DEP database, is vital to day-to-day operations by the Division of Waste Management at the DEP headquarters in Tallahassee and the six (6) State of Florida Environmental Protection Districts.

The Difference You Will Make:

The OPS Computer Operator's skill in the usage of computer software programs blended with an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing will assist the Division's Environmental Specialists, Planners, and Managers to ensure that plans and prioritized projects are in line with DEP's strategic objectives. The ability to collect, enter and retrieve accurate data, sometimes under pressure due to national-level deadlines, will impact the lives of Florida citizens and businesses either directly or indirectly.

How You Will Grow

DEP encourages its leaders to constantly innovate and seek efficiencies. We believe in supporting and encouraging you as you take on important and often complex projects while offering you the opportunity to gain valuable experience quickly.

Where You Will Work:

Tallahassee, Florida's Capitol City, lined with rolling hills, oak trees, and canopied roads combines old world charm with a modern pace of life. Home to two major universities as well as state government, Tallahassee is a mid-sized city in the heart of Florida's Big Bend. Boasting proximity to the coast and centrally located to popular tourist destinations, Tallahassee is a highly desirable location for both those seeking their first job or those ready to enter the next exciting chapter in their career.
