Job Description
Overview The R&D Associate Scientist will be an important member of our Valhalla LC Application team and will have opportunities to enhance technical skills and experience by using multiple analytical techniques tools including sample preparation by liquid extraction or SPE, assay kits, advanced tools of HPLC or LC/MS to support PepsiCo's global portfolio such as beverage or food products innovation, Discovery & Application, new analytes specification for market launch, and other needs from PepsiCo R&D partners. In addition, this role will also be working with broader Analytical teams such as supporting application projects for PGCS and the Forensics team based on business need.

Responsibilities - Perform sample preparation with various matrices including beverage, food, concentrate, botanical, etc., by using techniques of liquid extraction, solid phase extraction, filtration or concentration to support HPLC or LC/MS analysis.
- Independently utilize analytical tools of HPLC and test kits by following existing SOP, perform data processing and evaluation to ensure data quality and produce reliable reports to Discovery & Application and Products Innovation.
- Perform analytical method development and validation under the guidance of senior scientists and independently draft SOP by following industry criteria.
- Contribute to design and execution of experiments, analysis and interpretation of various types of data (quantitative/qualitative) using statistical tools to make sound technical evaluation on product and process issues.
- Participate as an active member of cross-functional issue resolution teams comprised of individuals from a variety of disciplines, including Quality, Product Development, Consumer Relations, Packaging, Engineering and other groups.
- Independently prioritize workload in a demanding and changing environment. Document and archive all activities during participation in multiple ongoing projects.
- Leverage internal experts and approved external laboratory for analytical testing needed for critical cases.
- Perform other tasks and lab duties as needed to support R&D innovation and Brand Stewardship projects.
- Compensation and Benefits:
- The expected compensation range for this position is between $70,700 - $118,400.

Qualifications - B.S. or M.S. Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or Food Chemistry, with minimum two years' industry experience.
- Demonstrate knowledge and hands-on experience for a broad range of analytical instruments, with a strong focus on HPLC instrumentation hardware and software (Empower) for quantification and profiling.
- Ability to design experiments for small-scale research projects. Execute experiments independently. Collect quality data and conduct base data analysis using statistical tools.
- Knowledge and experience of beverage formulas and concentrate composition to be able to determine accurate target when testing suspect samples and investigate out-of-spec results.
- Ability to prioritize workloads and manage competing priorities from both lab testing needs and client's requests.
- Strong problem solving/critical thinking skills to identify solutions to technical challenges.
- Be highly motivated, independent and interactive.
- Computer Skills - Power BI, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, LIMS.
