The Child Protective Services (CPS) Staff member for the Town of Sylvan Springs plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, welfare, and well-being of children who may be victims of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. This position involves investigating reports of child maltreatment, assessing family situations, and coordinating services to protect children while supporting families. The CPS staff works closely with law enforcement, schools, healthcare providers, and the court system.
Receive and investigate reports of suspected child abuse, neglect, or endangerment in accordance with state laws and local policies.
Conduct home visits, interviews, and assessments to determine the level of risk and immediate safety needs.
Develop safety plans and coordinate necessary interventions to protect children.
Collaborate with law enforcement, mental health professionals, medical personnel, educators, and other relevant agencies.
Document all case activity thoroughly, accurately, and in a timely manner using agency case management systems.
Provide testimony in court proceedings and prepare reports for judicial review when necessary.
Support families in accessing resources such as counseling, parenting classes, substance abuse treatment, and housing assistance.
Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and ongoing training programs.
Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards at all times.
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field required.
Previous experience in child welfare, social services, or case management preferred.
Strong knowledge of child development, family systems, and indicators of abuse or neglect.
Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and crisis intervention skills.
Ability to manage a demanding caseload and make decisions under pressure.
Must be able to work with families from diverse backgrounds and treat all clients with compassion and professionalism.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for field visits.
Must pass background checks, child abuse registry clearance, and drug screening.
Full-time position; may require evening, weekend, or on-call work depending on case urgency.
Work is performed in office settings, homes, schools, and occasionally in high-risk or emotionally challenging environments.
