We are seeking a versatile and experienced Systems & Database Administrator (Senior) to oversee the configuration, maintenance, and performance of enterprise IT infrastructure and databases. This hybrid role combines traditional system administration duties with database administration responsibilities to ensure high availability, reliability, and security across the organization’s computing environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership in system operations and database strategy while supporting the full lifecycle of both infrastructure and data assets.

Responsibilities

**System Administration Duties:**

  • Install, configure, and maintain enterprise server operating systems and software applications
  • Monitor and enhance system performance, reliability, and security through OS updates, patches, and performance tuning
  • Assign personnel to system administration tasks and evaluate their performance
  • Integrate long-term infrastructure requirements into organizational IT planning
  • Implement system enhancements and improvements in line with operational requirements
  • Ensure backup and disaster recovery strategies are properly implemented and tested

**Database Administration Duties:**

  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise databases to ensure data integrity, performance, and security
  • Perform database tuning, backup, recovery, and access control management
  • Develop and manage data strategies in collaboration with IT and business teams
  • Resolve data conflicts and advise users on database access, usage, and optimization
  • Conduct quality control audits and maintain the corporate data dictionary
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with data policies, retention, and audit requirements

Terms: Contingent Upon Contract Award

This position is contingent upon contract award , and selected candidates may be asked to sign a Letter of Intent (LOI) and contingent offer letter to confirm availability.

Location:

This is not a remote opportunity. Primary work will be performed on-site at either the Next Phase Solutions & Services office in Columbia, MD or at a designated government facility within the region, as directed by the client.

Requirements

  • MA/MS degree with 10+ years of combined system and database administration experience, or BA/BS with 12+ years
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance - Required
  • Experience managing both operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux) and database systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
  • Strong knowledge of system hardening, patch management, and OS-level automation
  • Proficiency in database tuning, indexing, backup strategies, and data security protocols
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Experience in federal, DoD, or mission-critical environments is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with virtualization, cloud platforms, or hybrid IT environments is a plus
  • Relevant certifications such as MCSE, RHCSA, CompTIA Security+, Oracle DBA, or Microsoft SQL are preferred

  • Excellent technical writing skills and proven experience in systems with complex requirements
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills with the ability to team with others to meet project objectives
  • Understanding of the system development lifecycle as implemented with Agile; SAFe knowledge a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to navigate in an office setting unassisted.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Strong speaking skills, including the ability to articulate thoughts in a clear manner and excellent word enunciation skills, are required.

Salary Range:

  • $125,000 - $150,000+

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. This range reflects a broad spectrum of potential candidates with salary offers based on skills, knowledge, and expertise in the field.
